HAMDEN, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Quinnipiac, on Tuesday September 30, at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 5-2-2 on the season while the Bobcats improve to 5-1-2.
After a scoreless first half, senior midfielder Andreas Andrews (Los Angeles, Calif.) put Holy Cross on top at the 66:36 mark, heading the ball past Quinnipiac goalkeeper Frederick Hall off of a corner kick. Andrews' first goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Jon Werth (University, Park, Md.).
Just under nine minutes later, at the 75:53 mark, Dwayne Mars crossed the ball to Graciano Brito who kicked the ball into the lower left corner of the Crusader net, tying the game, 1-1.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, at the 80:39 mark, Johan Karlhagen passed the ball to Brito from midfield, who beat out two Holy Cross defenders and slid the ball under junior goalkeeper Thomas Booth (Patchogue, N.Y.), scoring the game-winning goal.
Booth recorded five saves for the Crusaders while Hall made three stops for Quinnipiac.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, October 4, hosting Bucknell in its Patriot League home-opener at 3:00 p.m.
