Men's Soccer Ties Florida International, 1-1

WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore Jon Werth (University Park, Md.) scored in the 47th minute of the game as the Holy Cross men's soccer team tied Florida International, 1-1, in double overtime in non-conference action on Saturday at the University Park. The Crusaders are now 4-1-2 on the season, while the Golden Dragons are 0-5-2.
Three minutes into the second half, senior Alejandro Melean (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Tony Rosales (Aurora, Colo.) sprinted down the field, beating out a FIU defender and made a pass to Werth, who scored in the bottom right corner of the goal.
Just under three minutes left in regulation, Juan Guerra beat the Crusader defense down the right side of the field, crossing the ball to Marcos Ballardes, scoring in the left side of the net.
Holy Cross junior goalkeeper Thomas Booth (Patchogue, N.Y.) recorded seven saves, while the Golden Dragons' Jesse Fullerton made four stops.
The Crusaders' return to action on Saturday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m., as they travel to Colgate for their first Patriot League game of the season.
