Sept. 20, 2005
Brookline, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's soccer team won its fifth straight game with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Northeastern University on Tuesday afternoon at Parsons Field. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 5-2 overall, while the Huskies drop to 1-4-1.
Senior Anthony Cinelli scored what would be the game winning goal in the 15th minute, when he rifled a shot into the back of the NU net from the left corner of the box for his first score of the season.
The Crusaders then added two more goals, the first coming in the 67th minute when junior captain Josh Trott scored on a breakaway. Less than 20 minutes later, sophomore Marsalis Beckford gave HC a three-goal cushion after he took an Andrew Lunney pass and beat Northeastern keeper Sergio Saccoccio.
Holy Cross senior goalie Richard Whipple stopped nine shots for his third shutout of the year. Saccoccio made five saves for the Huskies.
The Crusaders open up Patriot League play on Saturday, September 24 when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. for a 1:00 p.m. showdown with Bucknell.
