Worcester, Mass. - Freshman Felipe Castrillon (Weston, Fla.) scored two goals and freshman Norbert Sieczkewski added another to lead the Holy Cross men's soccer team to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Sacred Heart on Wednesday afternoon. Holy Cross has now won three straight and improves to 3-2 overall this season, while the Pioneers fall to 1-3.
Sieczkewski opened up the scoring just 2:26 into the game when he headed a cross from senior Anthony Cinelli (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) into the back of the Sacred Heart net. The Pioneers got right back into the game after Jason Tessitore beat HC keeper Richard Whipple (Columbus, Ga.) on a breakaway to tie the game at 1-1 just 13:57 into the match.
Castrillon then scored what would be the game winner for Holy Cross when he corralled a rebound and scored less than three minutes later to give the Crusaders a 2-1 lead at the half. Senior forward Josh Trott was credited with the assist.
Castrillon then gave Holy Cross an insurance goal in the 68th minute when he received a leading pass from fellow freshman Andreas Andrews (Los Angeles, Calif.) and beat SHU keeper Matt Jones on a breakaway effort.
Whipple made three saves on the afternoon to record his third win of the season. Jones made seven saves for the Pioneers, who were outshot 13-8.
The Crusaders host the University at Albany on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. on the Hart Soccer Field.
