Men's Soccer Gets First Win
Sept. 10, 2005
Albany, N.Y. - Junior captain Josh Trott scored two goals and freshman Felipe Castrillon tallied his first collegiate goal as the Holy Cross men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 3-1 decision over St. Francis (N.Y.) at the Albany Showcase. The Crusaders are now 1-2 overall.
St. Francis got on the board first when Peter Ramirez scored on an unassisted effort when he placed a ball past Holy Cross keeper Richard Whipple from 10 yards out at the 21:30 mark.
But the Crusaders scored the game's next three goals and held the Terriers scoreless the rest of the way for the win.
Trott one-timed a cross from sophomore forward Marsalis Beckford, evening the score at 1-1 before halftime for Holy Cross' first goal of the season.
In the second, Castrillon took a pass from Andreas Andrews and beat St. Francis keeper Rosario Candela, for what would be the game-winning goal. Trott then gave the Crusaders an insurance goal in the 69th minute in a breakaway situation.
The Crusaders face Canisius tomorrow in the tournament's championship game at noon.
