HAMDEN, Conn. - Senior forward Josh Trott (Glen Cove, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Holy Cross men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn. With his performance, Trott has now scored 20 goals over the course of his career with the Crusaders. Holy Cross opens the season with a 1-0 record, while the Bobcats fall to 0-2 overall.
Junior forward Sefton Kincaid (Orlando, Fla.) opened the scoring at the 17:00 mark, knocking the ball home after a shot by sophomore midfielder Jerry Dickinson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) hit off the post. The Crusaders held the lead until the 73:12 mark, when Quinnipiac's Danilo Schiavon scored from the top left corner of the penalty box to tie the score at 1-1.
But just over five minutes later, Trott scored his first goal of the game at the 78:19 mark, to break the tie and give Holy Cross the lead for good. Trott then added his second goal of the day at the 82:40 mark, flipping the ball over the goalkeeper after a turnover at the top of the Quinnipiac penalty box.
Sophomore goalkeeper Keith Bauer (Commack, N.Y.) earned the victory in net, making four saves while allowing just one goal. Paul Fleck had four saves for the Bobcats.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, September 2, when it plays host to Maine in a 7:00 p.m. game at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium.
