Monty Sanders Earns All-Mid-Atlantic Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross men's soccer senior captain Monty Sanders (Temecula, Calif.) has earned third team NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. This is Sanders' first career All-Region honor.

Sanders, who earned first team All-Patriot League honors for the second year in a row this season, tallied four goals, eight assists and 16 points, which were all career-highs. Sanders led the team in assists and points, as his eight assists are second all-time in a season in school history. He also led the team with a career-best three game-winning goals. His eight assists ranked second in the league and 25th nationally. His 16 points were fifth in the league and his four goals were tied for eighth. During his career, Sanders only missed one game, playing and starting in 71 games posting a total of 11 career goals, 10 assists and 32 points. His 10 assists are tied for 10th all-time in program history. Sanders, who was a two-time captain, won the team's 2013 Luke Dunivant Award, which goes to a player who has inspired others by displaying outstanding courage, commitment to the team and sportsmanship during his career. He was named to the Patriot League All-Academic team for the first time in his career this year. Sanders was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2011 and 2012 and is a three-year member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.

The Holy Cross men's soccer team (9-9-2, 6-3-0 Patriot League) concluded the 2013 season by reaching the Patriot League championship game for the first time since 2008, falling to Navy, 2-0. The Crusaders' nine overall wins were their most since going 9-5-5 in 2008, while their six Patriot League victories tied for their most all-time with the 2001 team which went 6-0-1 in league play. Holy Cross' 24 goals this season were its most since netting 26 in 2007 and its 25 goals allowed were its lowest since allowing 18 in 2009.
