Men’s Soccer Announces 2013 Schedule

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr. and head men's soccer coach Marco Koolman have announced the Crusaders' schedule for the 2013 season. Holy Cross is scheduled to play a total of 17 games during the regular season, including eight at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. Last year the Crusaders went 5-1-1 (.786) at home which was their best home record since the 2002 season when they went 7-1-1 (.833).

The Crusaders open the 2013 season at Hartford on Aug. 30 and then kick off the home season versus Providence on Sept. 1. After playing at Dartmouth (Sept. 7) and Quinnipiac (Sept. 14), HC will play a home contest versus Sacred Heart (Sept. 18). Following a match at Bryant (Sept. 21), the Crusaders will host 2012 CAA Tournament champions and NCAA Tournament participant Northeastern (Sept. 24).

The Crusaders will then play eight straight Patriot League games, starting with a match at new league member Loyola (Sept. 28). After hosting 2012 Patriot League regular season champion American (Oct. 5), the Crusaders will take on first-year Patriot League opponent Boston University (Oct. 9) on the road. Holy Cross will then host 2012 Patriot League Tournament champions and NCAA Tournament participant Lafayette (Oct. 12). After a road match at Colgate (Oct. 19), the Crusaders will meet Navy (Oct. 26) and Army (Oct. 30) at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. Following a contest at Bucknell (Nov. 2), HC will host Harvard (Nov. 6) in the Crusaders last regular season non-conference game of the year, followed by the regular season finale at Lehigh (Nov. 9).

For the first time this season, the top six teams in the final regular season standings will qualify for the Patriot League Tournament. The No. 3 seed will face the No. 6 seed, and the No. 4 seed will face the No. 5 seed in the quarterfinals on Nov. 12 with the higher seed hosting each game. The tournament will then be re-seeded after the quarterfinals. The No. 1 seed will host the semifinals on Nov. 15 and the championship game on Nov. 17.

Last season, the Crusaders went 5-10-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the Patriot League.
