WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross men's soccer junior Kevin O'Connell (Basking Ridge, N.J.) has been named the Patriot League Brine Offensive Player of the Week for his three-point performance on the week in wins versus Bryant and Navy. This is the first time that O'Connell has received this honor as he is the first Crusader to earn this award since the 2009 season.
O'Connell posted an assist on the game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory versus Bryant on Oct. 24, while he gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead with his first goal of the season in the 2-1 win versus Patriot League opponent Navy on Oct. 27. He is tied for the team-lead and tied for fourth in the Patriot League with a career-best four assists this season. He also has one goal this season for six points. O'Connell has five goals and six assists for 16 career points.
The Crusaders (5-8-2, 2-2-2 PL), whose game versus Harvard on Oct. 30 has been postponed due to Hurricane Sandy, will conclude the Patriot League regular season on Saturday, Nov. 3, when it travels to Washington, D.C., to take on American (9-5-2, 4-0-2 PL) at noon. The Crusaders are currently tied for fourth place in the Patriot League standings. The top four teams qualify for the Patriot League Tournament on Friday, Nov. 9 and Sunday, Nov. 11, which will be hosted by American, who has clinched the top seed. The Crusaders are looking to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since the 2008 season.
