Men's Soccer Shut Out By Boston University, 4-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Mac McGuire scored two goals for the Terriers as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to Boston University, 4-0, on Tuesday evening at Nickerson Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-5-0 overall, while the Terriers improve to 2-4-2 overall. 

At the 22:31, the Crusaders took the first shot on goal of the contest for either team when an attempt by junior captain Monty Sanders (Temecula, Calif.) was saved by Nick Thomson. Then at the 28:35 mark, the Terriers took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Michael Bustamante. Anthony Ciccone assisted on the goal. With just 13 seconds left in the first half, Boston University increased its lead to 2-0 when McGuire found the back of the net. Ali Sozeri posted an assist. The Terriers outshot the Crusaders by a 10-2 margin for the half, while BU took four shots on goal and Holy Cross posted one.

Boston University extended its lead to 3-0 at 55:21 when McGuire netted his second goal of the contest. Cameron Souri posted an assist and Ciccone tallied his second assist of the game. At 79:56, BU scored the last goal of the match when Parker Powell found the back of the net as Bustamante assisted on the goal.

Sophomore goalie Michael Thompson (Cromwell, Conn.) made two saves and allowed two goals as he played the first half, while freshman Kevin Wright (McKinney, Texas) made his collegiate debut playing the second half. He posted one save and allowed two goals. Thomson made one save to record the victory. Boston University outshot Holy Cross, 18-3, while the Terriers took seven shots on goal and the Crusaders had one.

The Crusaders return to action when they start Patriot League play with a home contest versus Army at 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
