Men's Soccer Picked Sixth In Patriot League Preseason Poll
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's soccer team was selected sixth in the 2011 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. Colgate was picked to finish first, receiving 10 first-place votes.
Colgate, who bowed out of the 2010 Patriot League Tournament in the first round, earned a league-high 94 points. Bucknell was selected second with 86 points and four first-place votes while American came in third with 69 points. Rounding out the voting was Lehigh (65 points, two first-place), Lafayette (53), Navy (41), Holy Cross (21) and Army (19). Bucknell junior Brendan Burgdorf was named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Lehigh's Kevin Strunk was named the preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Holy Cross opens up the 2011 slate on Friday, Aug. 26 with a contest against Boston University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. on the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium in Worcester, Mass.
