WORCESTER, Mass. –Holy Cross men's soccer head coach Ted priestly has announced that seniors Kyle Miller (Woodbury, N.J.), Tom Van Grinsven (Chicago, Ill.) and Jonathan Werth (University Park, Md.) have been named captains for the 2010 season. Miller will return as a tri-captain for the second consecutive season.
"Our three captains reflect the mission and philosophy of Holy Cross soccer, both on the field and off," said Priestly. "They have seamlessly filled the void left by last year's senior class and I couldn't be happier with the uniquely positive roles that each captain has played in leading us into this season."
Miller led the team in points (7) last season and was named the 2010 Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year earlier this week. Van Grinsven returns after starting in every contest last season, as he was named a Brine Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after recording his first career goal. Werth also returns to the team as a leading point scorer, marking three goals for six points last season. He topped the team in game-winning goals (2) and shots on goal (17).
The team opens up its 2010 campaign tonight, away against Sacred Heart at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played on Campus Field in Fairfield, Conn.
