WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross men's soccer junior forward Kyle Miller (Woodbury, N.J) has been voted as Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in a vote by conference head coaches and sports information directors today. American senior Cooper Bryant was chosen as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

"It's a great honor to be named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year," said Miller. "However, with my attitude and work efficiency, I will continue to work as hard as I can throughout the season and reach the goal of taking home the award again."

Miller, who led the team in scoring (nine goals, 18 points) and game-winning goals (three) last year, also finished the 2008 regular season ranked 66th on the NCAA individual list for goals per game (0.47).

"We're all very pleased that the league has chosen to recognize Kyle as one of the Patriot League's premier attacking players," said head coach Ted Priestly. "He has put himself in a position to be successful because of his work ethic, drive and commitment.  He works tirelessly for his teammates, and he leads by example."

In addition to the preseason player of the year announcements, Holy Cross was elected to finish fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. Colgate, who defeated Holy Cross in the Patriot League Championship game last year, was chosen as the preseason favorite to capture the league title.

The Raiders received 12 first-place votes and a total of 95 points, edging American, who was picked to finish second with four first-place votes and a total of 86 points. Following the Eagles was Lafayette (60 points), Holy Cross (58 points), Bucknell (57 points), Lehigh (49 points), Navy (26 points) and Army (17 points).

The Crusaders will host an exhibition game against New Hampshire at 7:00 p.m. on August 25 at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium before the 2009 season officially begins.
