Men's Soccer Announces 2010 Recruiting Class

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross head men's soccer coach Ted Priestly has announced the signing of nine players who will join the Holy Cross program in the fall of 2010. Josh Cintas (San Diego, Calif.), Dane Kenny (Williston Park, N.Y.), Brendan McGill (Northborough, Mass.), Nolan McKeever (Lilburn, Ga.), Kevin Meinert (Toms River, N.J.), Kevin O'Connell (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Monty Sanders (Temecula, Calif.), Zachary Silva (Hampton, Ga.) and Tommy Uttaro (Staten Island, N.Y.) have all signed national letters of intent to play soccer for the Crusaders. 

"Each of these young men comes from fine youth and high school soccer programs with winning traditions," said Priestly. "I know that each of these boys understands that they will be expected to compete for playing time right away and that the only way on to the field is to earn a position. They are all hungry and ready for the challenges that lie ahead and I can't tell you how pleased we all are to have these boys join the Holy Cross soccer family."

Cintas is a forward/midfielder who played for Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif. He was selected to the All-CIF first team and the second team All-San Diego Section as a junior. He helped Cathedral Catholic win two straight section Division III championships, achieved during his sophomore and junior seasons. He also plays for the San Diego Surf Academy.

Kenny is a defender who played two season of varsity soccer for St. Anthony's in South Huntington, N.Y. He had a decorated senior season as he was named to the 2009 NSCHSAA All-League team and the 2009 CHSAA All-State team. He also took home the 2009 NSCHSAA Championship Game MVP award as his team earned its fourth-consecutive NSCHSAA league championship. He also plays club soccer for Albertson Academy.

McGill is a midfielder who played four seasons of varsity soccer for Algonquin High School in Northborough, Mass. Over his sophomore, junior and senior seasons, McGill earned Mid-Wach All-Star and Central Mass. All-Star honors.  He was named a two-time All-State honoree and helped lead his team to the Central Mass. Championship title as a senior. He competes on the MPS Boston Bulldogs club team as well.

McKeever played four seasons of varsity soccer for Saint Pius Catholic in Atlanta, Ga. McKeever, who captained his high school team as a senior, was part of the Saint Pius squad who won the Georgia state soccer championship that same year. He has also played at the international level and has been part of Olympic Development Program (ODP), captaining the southern region ODP team in 2009. He was invited to the National Team camp in 2005. He also playsfor Cobb FC.

Meinert is a goalkeeper who played four seasons of varsity soccer at Toms River North High School in Toms River, N.J. He was named his team's Defensive Player of the Year as a senior after recording nine regular season shutouts and four post-season shutouts, helping his team win the N.J. State Interscholastic Central Division IV Championship. He earned first team All-State honors from the Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey and was a first team All-State Central Section II selection as a senior as well. He plays club soccer for PDA.

O'Connell is a forward who played four seasons of varsity soccer at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, N.J. He recorded 15 goals and eight assists over his senior year, picking up a first team Skyland Conference selection and Courier News first team All-Area honors. Under his guidance, Ridge took home the N.J. state section championship his senior year as well. He plays club soccer for PDA.

Sanders is a midfielder who played three seasons of varsity soccer at Temecula Valley High School in Temecula, Calif. He was named team captain as a junior and senior and recorded 14 goals and 17 assists over his career. He garnered Southwestern League All-Scholastic team honors and was named a second team All-League selection his sophomore year.  He also plays for Nomads SC.

Silva is a midfielder who played four seasons of varsity soccer at Dutchtown High School in Hampton, N.J. He set school records for goals in a game (5) and goals in a season (25) during his senior year. His team was crowned the 2009 Region AAAA and Henry County champions as he earned team MVP and first team All-Henry County honors. He plays for Cobb FC as well.

Uttaro is a midfielder who played at Staten Island Tech in Staten Island, N.Y. He was named to the Staten Island Advance All-Star team his senior year after finishing with nine goals and eight assists. He was also named to the first team All-Staten Island as a junior and plays for the club soccer team PDA.

"Each of these players is coming to Holy Cross with ambitious goals for themselves and for our program," continued Priestly. "Assistant coach John Frederick and I have enjoyed getting to know these boys and their families and look forward to building positive relationships with this class, helping them achieve their goals in life and, of course, to winning."
