Holy Cross Men's Soccer Downs Albany, 1-0

Senior Goalkeeper Thomas Booth On First Shutout Of Season

WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Shane Regan (Quincy, Mass.) scored the only tally of the game in the 47th minute to lead Holy Cross to a 1-0 victory over Albany at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium Tuesday evening. With the win the Crusaders improve to 2-6, while the Great Danes drop to 0-7-2.

Regan's goal came 1:11 into the second half. Senior Ryan O'Hanlon (St. James, N.Y.) deflected a Holy Cross free kick off the far post. The ball found its way to Regan in the penalty area and he buried it into the left side of the net.

The teams played a scoreless first half. The Crusaders held a 6-2 lead in shots, but Great Dane goaltender Adrian Foncette was only forced to make one save. Holy Cross had three corner kicks in the first 45 minutes while Albany had one. Both teams were almost even in first half fouls, with Albany having a 10-9 edge. Junior Jon Werth (University Park, Md.) had three shots in the first half for Holy Cross.

Senior goaltender Thomas Booth (Patchogue, N.Y.) made two saves in the win for the Crusaders. It is the 13th shutout of his career. Foncette made three saves for Albany, and Ian Peach and Rikkert Pilaar finished with two shots apiece for the Great Danes. Holy Cross outshot Albany 9-6 overall.

The Crusaders return to action this weekend with their second Patriot League contest of the season. They will host Colgate on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
