The Holy Cross rowing team has announced its team captains for the upcoming 2005-2006 season. Seniors Gregory Connors (Devon, Pa.) and Bryce Ritzel (Easton, Conn.) will serve as the captains for the men's team, while seniors Abby Talcott (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Jane Webster (Carver, Mass.) will be the captains of the women's squad.
Connors rowed in both the lightweight boat and for the second varsity eight during the 2004-2005 season. At the ECAC Championship, he won a bronze medal in the lightweight boat. During his sophomore year, Connors won a gold medal with the second varsity eight at the New England Championship.
Ritzel was in both the heavyweight varsity eight and the lightweight boat for the Crusaders in 2004-2005. With the varsity eight, he won a gold medal at the Patriot Challenge, a silver at the New England Championship and a bronze at the ECAC Championship. Ritzel and the rest of the varsity eight also earned a national ranking of No. 16 from U.S. Rowing.
Talcott was a member of the varsity eight last season, helping lead the Crusaders to third place finishes at the Jesuit Invitational Regatta and the Patriot League Championship. She was also rowed in the varsity eight during her sophomore year, and won a bronze medal at the 2004 New England Championship.
Webster rowed in the second varsity eight and the varsity four for Holy Cross during the 2004-2005 season. She led both of those boats to first place finishes at the Worcester City Championship, while the varsity four came in second at the Jesuit Invitational Regatta and the second varsity eight placed fourth at the New England Championship.
The Crusaders are scheduled to open the 2005-2006 season on October 2, when they take part in the Textile River Regatta in Lowell, Mass.
