Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's rowing program earned a spot in the national rankings this week, as the Men's Varsity Eight boat was ranked in the top-20 nationally in two polls.
The Crusaders are 16th in the U.S. Rowing Men's Varsity Eight Collegiate Coaches Poll, and 15th in the cMax30's Varsity Eight rankings.
"We are very excited about these rankings," said Men's Rowing Head Coach Tom Sullivan." It marks a major step forward for the program, and is a credit to the entire team."
The nine members of the boat (eight plus a coxswain) are: seniors Conor Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.), Brian Mulligan (Andover, Mass.), and coxswain Nicholas Zinter (Buffalo, N.Y.), junior Bryce Ritzel (Easton, Conn.) and sophomores Jared Bennici (Marlborough, Mass.), Kevin Crowley (Brockton, Mass.) Dan Goulet (Watertown, Conn.), Albert Monte (Philadelphia, Pa.), and Rob Schwab (Athol, Mass.)
The boat most recently finished 4th in the Petite Finals of the EARC Championships held on Lake Quinsigimond. The Crusaders trailed only Navy (9th in the USRowing poll), Dartmouth (12th) and Cornell (13th).
The Crusader Varsity Eight also placed 3rd at the ECAC National Invitational Championship and 2nd at the New England Championships in recent weeks.
