Men's Varsity Eight Named ECAC/NIRC Crew Of The Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's varsity eight crew was named the ECAC/NIRC Crew of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. The Crusader men's and women's teams, led by the first place finish of the men's varsity eight boat, combined to tie for second overall in the Patriot League Challenge at Lake Quinsigamond on April 30.

Beating Army by just under four seconds, the Crusader men's varsity eight crew finished first with a time of 5:56.04. Army's time of 5:59.94 was good enough for second and Colgate took third in a time of 6:00.98. Holy Cross won the race by also defeating Lehigh, Bucknell and Lafayette.

The men's varsity eight crew is made up of senior coxswain Donald Steinert (Rockville Center, N.Y.), sophomore Michael Cutting (Rockville, Md.), junior Kevin Crowley (Brockton, Mass.), junior Jared Bennici (Marlborough, Conn.), junior Mathias Weiden (Yonkers, N.Y.), junior Dan Goulet (Watertown, Conn.), junior Benjamin Konicki (Foster, R.I.), junior Rob Schwab (Athol, Mass.) and junior Albert Monte (Philadelphia, Pa.).

The Crusaders earned 25 of their overall 57 points with the varsity eight win. Army also tallied 57 points on the day. Lehigh won the overall Patriot League Challenge with 65 points.

The Holy Cross men's rowing team will compete in the ECAC Cup this Saturday, May 6 and the New England Championships on Sunday, May 7. Both events will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Lake Quinsigamond.
