Crusader Men's Rowing Starts Out Strong

Manchester, N.H. - The Holy Cross Men's Crew team opened up fall competition with a win Saturday in Manchester, N.H. The Varsity Eight won the Men's Open by seven seconds over a team from MIT. The Varsity eight is complied of senior Captain Albert Monte (Philadelphia, PA), sophomore Kevin Nestor (New York, N.Y.), freshman Thomas O'Connor (Pelham, N.Y.), junior Christopher Piltin (Medford, N.J.), senior Rob Schwab (Athol, Mass.), freshman Sean McLaughlin (Abington, PA), sophomore Christopher Sieck (Haddonfield, N.J.), senior James Staley (Walpole, Mass.) and senior Thomas Meehan (Ambler, PA). This marks the first time that the Varsity Eight competed this fall. The finish time of 14:59 barely broke the 15 minute mark, but was more than enough to take the competition.
The winning Varsity Eight wasn't the only entry for Holy Cross in that competition. Another eight man entry took fifth on the day with a time of 15:17 also got off to a solid start for the fall season. The team made up of senior Matthew Drago (Western Springs, Ill.), sophomore James Eagan (Norwich, Conn.), freshman Gaven Ehrlich (Rochester, N.Y.), junior Connor Faughnan (Fairfield, Conn.), sophomore Adam Furlong (Lawrenceville, N.J.) L. Germino, P. Golden, senior Dan Goulet (Watertown, Conn.) and senior Matthew DePucchio (Plainville, Conn.).
In the Men's Open four competition, the team of senior Jared Bennici (Marlborough, Conn), junior Will Bogdanowicz (Chesapeake, VA), sophomore Christian Bratton (Philadelphia, PA), A. Cheung, and D. Anderson took second with a time of 16:12.30. A team from MIT took the victory from Holy Cross, winning the race in 16:00.
The Crusader rowing teams are back on the water Satruday and Sunday, October 21 and 22 in Boston, Mass. at the nationally known Head of the Charles competition. Races are scheduled to start at 8AM.
