CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's rowing team was defeated by MIT and Columbia on the Charles River on Saturday morning. The Crusaders had three boats taking part in the regatta, racing in the varsity eight, the second varsity eight and the freshman eight. The varsity eight and freshman eight events were held over a 1,300-meter course, while the second varsity eight was a 2,000-meter race.
In the varsity eight, Columbia placed first in a time of 3:38.96, followed by MIT (3:40.86) and Holy Cross (3:46.40). The Crusader varsity eight included coxswain Mary Carol Madigan, Adam Furlong, Daniel McGlinn, Erick Winstead, Garrett Pearce, James Eagan, Wade Lucas, Grant O'Connell and Christian Bratton.
Columbia also claimed first place in the second varsity eight with a time of 7:25.80, while the Crusaders finished second in a time of 7:52.40. Holy Cross' second varsity eight was made up of coxswain Chris Hayden, Terry Therrien, DJ Estes, Charles Ullman, Justin Howlett, Eddie Pinero, Tucker Wade, Pete Haney and Christopher Sieck.
The freshman eight race was won by MIT in a time of 3:40.90, followed by Columbia (3:52.86) and Holy Cross (3:59.48). The Crusaders in the freshman eight boat were coxswain Thomas Wilde, Tom Gallant, Dan Ryan, Trevor Zaleski, Richard Sullivan, Peter Dwyer, Kevin Smith, Colin Hayes and Patrick Kokszka.
Holy Cross will be back in action on Sunday, April 5, when it faces Dartmouth at Lake Quinsigamond.
