WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's rowing team put together another strong showing while sweeping all four events at the Worcester City Championship on Sunday morning. Worcester Polytechnic Institute participated in all four races while Clark University took part in the varsity four event.
Rowing with a tailwind, the Crusader varsity eight crew finished with a time of 6:06.6 to beat out WPI by just under nine seconds.
In the second varsity eight race, Holy Cross repeated victory over WPI by over 10 seconds, hitting the finish line in a time of 6:16.0.
The varsity four race consisted of four teams, including two from Holy Cross and one apiece from WPI and Clark. With a time of 7:01.4, the Crusader "A" boat took first overall. WPI followed in second place with a time of 7:17.2 with Holy Cross "B" right behind at 7:20.6. Clark rounded out the varsity four field with a time of 7:45.8.
In the novice eight event, the Holy Cross "A" crew completed the sweep by taking first in a time of 6:27.5. WPI was second in a time of 6:44.0 and the Crusader "B" novice team was five seconds behind at 6:49.5.
Next up for the Holy Cross men's rowing team is the two-day Knetch Cup beginning on Saturday, April 8 at 8:00 a.m. The men's team will join the Holy Cross women as they travel to Camden, N.J. for the event.
