Todd Pearson is in his fifth season
as the head men’s rowing coach at the College of the Holy
Cross in 2012-2013.
During the 2011-2012 season, Holy Cross won three of four races
versus EARC opponent Rutgers, while the Crusaders then swept all
three races versus Bucknell. The second varsity eight posted a
strong spring season with four first-places finishes with wins
versus George Washington, Georgetown, Rutgers and Bucknell. At the
IRA National Championship, the varsity four placed first in the
petite final earning a seventh overall place finish out of 13 teams
in the varsity four competition.
In the 2010-2011 season, the Crusaders earned numerous victories
during the year as this was the first time since 2007 that every
boat on the team won at least one race in the same season. At the
George Washington Invitational the varsity eight won the Sullivan
Cup, which was named after Holy Cross Hall of Famer Tom Sullivan,
by defeating George Washington. Also at the GW Invitational the
second varsity eight placed first versus Gonzaga and Georgetown.
The Crusaders won three of four races versus Bucknell as the
varsity eight, the second varsity eight and the third varsity four
each earned victories. Holy Cross swept fellow EARC member Rutgers
on the Raritan River. This was the program’s first-ever sweep
of an EARC opponent as the varsity eight, the second varsity eight
and the freshman eight were all victorious. At the IRA National
Championship, the varsity four placed second out of five boats in
its opening heat to qualify for the semifinals. The varsity four
finished fourth in the petitte finals and 10th out of 19 boats
overall.
In his second season, Holy Cross competed versus some of the
nation’s top teams. The fall season featured the Crusaders
racing in the Head of the Charles Regatta. In the spring regular
season, the varsity eight competed against five nationally ranked
teams with races versus No. 16 Dartmouth, No. 20 UC San Diego, No.
15 George Washington, No. 20 Georgetown and No. 17 Oregon State.
Against Bucknell on Lake Quinsigamond, the varsity eight and the
freshman eight won their races, while versus Rutgers on the Raritan
River, the Crusaders’ varsity eight and freshman eight again
each earned victories. The Crusaders also competed at the IRA
National Championship for the fifth straight season. Holy
Cross’ varsity eight received two points in the last USRowing
men’s varsity eight poll making it the first time that the
varsity eight earned points in the final poll of the season since
2007.
In 2008-2009, Pearson guided the Crusaders as they participated in
several big meets such as the Head of the Charles Regatta, the
Eastern Sprints and the IRA National Championship Regatta. In
2007-2008, he served as a volunteer assistant coach for Holy Cross.
He helped the Crusaders to a first place finish at the Patriot
Challenge Regatta, while the team also took part in the Eastern
Sprints and the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship
Regatta. Pearson previously spent two seasons as a volunteer
assistant coach at Dartmouth College (2003-2005).
From 1998-2003, Pearson served as the men’s freshman coach
for Holy Cross. In 2002, his second novice eight boat won the gold
medal at the New England Championship, while in 1999 the Crusaders
took home the bronze medal in the second novice eight. Pearson also
assisted in coaching the men’s varsity squad from
1998-2003.
A four-year member of the Crusader rowing team from 1994-1998,
Pearson was a part of the first-ever Holy Cross squad to row in a
varsity-level event at the Eastern Sprints, placing 10th in the
varsity lightweight eight in 1998. He also earned two bronze medals
at the New England Championship, as a member of the second varsity
eight in 1996 and the varsity lightweight eight in 1997.
Pearson earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Holy
Cross in 1998, and went on to receive a Ph.D. in biomedical
sciences from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in
2003. He resides in Worcester with his wife, Annie, and their
daughter, Tessa, and son, Reid. Annie is a 2001 graduate of Holy
Cross and had an outstanding field hockey career. A member of the
