WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's rowing team tied for 13th out of 18 teams at the 2012 Eastern Sprints on Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond. Harvard won the title with 37 points.

The varsity eight placed 16th out of 18 boats overall. After the Crusaders finished sixth of six boats in their opening heat with a time of 6:28.747, they finished fourth out of six in the third level final with a time of 6:17.953.

The second varsity eight finished 13th out of 16 boats overall. The Crusaders finished fifth out of five teams in their opening heat with a time of 6:21.332. Holy Cross then won the third level final with a time of 6:18.350.

The third varsity eight placed fourth out of four teams in its heat with a time of 6:32.783 as it did not qualify for the grand finals.

The freshman eight placed 16th out of 18 boats overall. The Crusaders finished sixth out of six boats in their opening heat with a time of 6:27.550, while they then placed fourth out of six in the third level final with a time of 6:34.327.

The freshman four placed third out of six in the grand finals with a time of 7:11.192.

"Overall, it was a solid day for the team," said head coach Todd Pearson. "Every boat hit or beat their seed, which is always tough to do with the level of competition at this regatta. I was particularly pleased with the second freshman four and the second varsity eight, both of whom achieved our program's best result ever in their respective events. Additionally, the freshman eight showed real improvement from earlier in the season. I was hoping to perform a little better in the varsity eight, but now we'll look to put together a fast four to race at the IRAs."

Selected Holy Cross boats will conclude the 2011-2012 season at the IRA National Championship regatta, which will take place from May 31-June 2 in Camden, N.J.
