Men's Varsity Eight Places First At Snake Regatta
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross varsity eight placed first out of 20 boats in the men's eight race as the Holy Cross men's rowing team opened its fall season at the Snake Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday.
The varsity eight won the race with a time of 14:53.700. Bates finished second with a time of 15:00.880. Holy Cross' second varsity eight placed sixth in the race with a time of 15:27.459, while the freshman eight finished 12th with a time of 16:40.467. The Crusaders placed 11th out of 19 boats in the men's four race with a time of 17:45.882.
"I'm pleased with the outcome of the race," said Holy Cross head coach Todd Pearson. "Our guys handled the rough conditions well and rowed hard. I'm also very happy that each boat beat their respective competition. Not only did we have the fastest varsity, but we also had the fastest second varsity and freshman boats at the regatta. All of us are happy to start the year with a win, but no one is satisfied and we're still focused on our larger goals for the year. This is just the first step."
The Crusaders return to action when they compete at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23-24.
