Men's Rowing Competes Versus No. 20 Georgetown
PELHAM, N.Y. – The Holy Cross men's rowing team competed versus No. 20 Georgetown on Saturday afternoon at Orchard Beach Lagoon. Georgetown won all three races. The races were held at high tide with a light and variable cross-tailwind.
"In the varsity eight race, both boats moved out together for the first 500m," said Holy Cross head coach Todd Pearson. "However, Georgetown pushed hard in the second 500m and we couldn't answer as they moved out to a one length lead. Throughout the second half of the race, the Holy Cross varsity fought hard and closed the gap, but we weren't able to get any closer than within six seats of Georgetown. In the freshman and second varsity events, both Holy Cross boats rowed well, but weren't able to match the speed of the Georgetown crews."
The varsity eight race was a close finish as No. 20 Georgetown (6:08.6) just defeated Holy Cross (6:10.8). Georgetown (6:07.1) then defeated Holy Cross (6:18.9) in the freshman eight race, while Georgetown (6:30.2) took the second varsity eight race over Holy Cross (6:38.4) to conclude the competition.
The Crusaders will compete versus Bucknell on Sunday, April 18 on Lake Quinsigamond.
