WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's rowing program has named seniors D.J. Estes (Falmouth, Mass.) and Daniel McGlinn (Ambler, Pa.) as 2009-2010 team captains.
"Dan and D.J. are a reflection of the entire squad, which is now almost equally comprised of former high school rowers and true walk-on novices," said Holy Cross men's rowing coach Todd Pearson. "Both student-athletes have outstanding work ethics and will set a great example for their fellow teammates."
Estes was a walk-on rower on the team as a freshman, having been a member of the hockey, lacrosse and cross country teams at Falmouth H.S. At Holy Cross, he was a member of the first men's freshman eight team to row at the Eastern Sprints, finishing 14th in 2007. Also as a freshman, his crew won the Knecht Cup and competed at the IRA National Championship Regatta. As a sophomore, Estes rowed in the men's second varsity eight, finishing 15th at the Eastern Sprints and 18th at the IRA Regatta. In 2008-2009, Estes spent time in both the varsity eight and the second varsity eight. He was a part of the first Holy Cross varsity team to row at the Princeton Chase and earned a 16th place finish in the second varsity eight at the 2009 Eastern Sprints. Estes is a Political Science Major with a concentration in Latin American Studies.
McGlinn rowed at Haverford School, earning a silver medal in the boy's quad at the 2005 Scholastic National Championship Regatta. At Holy Cross, he was in the same freshman crew as Estes, winning the Knecht Cup and finishing 14th at the Eastern Sprints. As a sophomore, McGlinn earned a seat in the men's varsity eight that finished 15th at the Eastern Sprints and competed in the IRA Regatta. As a junior, McGlinn again was in the varsity eight and competed in the Eastern Sprints and IRA Regattas, the latter regatta being held for the first time in California, where the HC men's varsity eight finished in 21st place. McGlinn is an Economics major.
