GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The Holy Cross men's rowing team competed at day one of the 107th IRA National Championship at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma on Thursday. The varsity eight of sophomore coxswain Mary Carol Madigan (Kenilworth, Ill.), senior stroke Adam Furlong (Pittstown, N.J.), junior Garrett Pearce (Haworth, N.J.), senior Erick Winstead (Fairfield, Conn.), junior Daniel McGlinn (Ambler, Pa.), sophomore Grant O'Connell (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.), senior Wade Lucas (Portland, Maine), senior James Eagan (Norwich, Conn.) and senior Christian Bratton (Philadelphia, Pa.) raced twice on the day against the nation's best teams.
Holy Cross started competition by finishing sixth with a time of 6:28.00 as the Crusaders' elimination heat was won by No. 6 Washington with a time of 5:57.00. Holy Cross then finished fourth in its repechage heat with a time of 6:17.30. No. 11 Syracuse won the heat with a time of 6:02.70.
The varsity eight will continue competition on June 5 with the semifinals.
