WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Edison Parzanese (Edgartown, Mass.) scored two goals and added three assists for five points as the Holy Cross men's lacrosse team defeated Marist, 10-6, this afternoon in non-conference action on the Hart Turf Field for its third straight victory. The win raises the Crusaders record to 5-6 overall, while the Red Foxes fall to 4-7.
Senior Paul LeBlanc (Lexington, Mass.) netted two goals and added two assists for the Crusaders in the win. Also scoring a pair of goals for Holy Cross were senior Tanner Fogarty (McMurray, Pa.) and freshman Kenny Minor (South Hadley, Mass.). Senior Mike Moriarty (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Chris Smirti (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) also added goals for the Crusaders in the win.
Holy Cross jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the game on goals by Fogarty, Moriarty, and a pair of goals by LeBlanc. Marist cut in to the lead with a goal in the second period, but the Crusaders answered back with three consecutive goals, including two goals by Minor and one by Parzanese.
Parzanese opened up scoring in the third period on an assist by LeBlanc to extend the score to 8-1 in favor of the Crusaders. However, Marist went on to score four straight goals to narrow the margin to 8-5. After trading goals, including Fogarty's second of the day, the Crusaders closed out the scoring with a goal by Smirti to reach the final score, 10-6.
Sophomore goalie Jimmy Harrison (East Williston, N.Y.) had 10 saves on the day for the Crusaders, while Ryan Penner stopped nine shots for Marist.
The Crusaders will return to action Saturday, April 21, as they take on Harvard at 4:00 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
