POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Senior Tim Redmond (Andover, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal to break a 5-5 tie with 4:50 remaining in regulation as the Holy Cross men's lacrosse team defeated Marist, 6-5, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 4-7 overall, while the Red Foxes fall to 0-12 overall.
Sophomore Edison Parzanese (Edgartown, Mass.) scored two goals for the Crusaders, while senior Toby Banta (Melrose, Mass.), junior Luke Marchand (Concord, Mass.) and sophomore Chris Smirti (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) each scored one goal. Banta, sophomore Kenny Minor (South Hadley, Mass.) and sophomore John Rapport (Wyckoff, N.J.) each had one assist.
Marist was led by Ryan Sharkey and Kyle Reny who each had two goals.
Marist took a 1-0 lead with 8:09 left in the first period with a goal by Reny. The Crusaders then tied the game at 1-1 with 2:34 remaining in the period when Marchand scored off an assist by Minor. The Red Foxes regained the lead when Sharkey scored a man-up goal early in the second period to take a 2-1 lead into half time.
The Red Foxes started off the third period with two straight goals to increase their lead to 4-1. Smirti then scored off an assist by Rapport and Parzanese scored to make the score 4-3. Marist scored the last goal of the period to take a 5-3 advantage into the fourth period. With 7:49 left on the clock, Banta scored to make the score 5-4 and then 1:14 later Parzanese tied the game at 5-5. Redmond then scored the game-winner with 4:50 remaining. Banta assisted on the goal.
Holy Cross junior goalie Jimmy Harrison (East Williston, N.Y.) made 14 saves, while Marist's Ryan Penner made 10 saves.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 19, when they host Harvard at the Hart Turf Field at 7:00 p.m.
