WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior captain Billy Klotz (Derry, N.H.) scored five goals, including a goal just before time expired in the fourth period to force overtime, but it was not enough as the Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to Bellarmine, 12-11 in sudden-death overtime, this evening in non conference action at the Hart Turf Field. Bellarmine's Adam Gardner scored the game-winning goal with 1:49 left in the overtime period as he led the Knights with four goals. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-11, while the Knights improve to 4-7.

The Knights scored the first three goals of the game before junior Grant Cowherd (Summit, N.J.) scored his second goal of the season with 3:43 left in the first period. Junior Paul LeBlanc (Lexington, Mass.) cut the deficit to 3-2 at 10:58 of the second period, but the Knights responded with two straight goals to increase their lead to 5-2. Freshman Luke Marchand (Concord, Mass.), freshman John Marino (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Klotz each scored a goal as the Crusaders tallied three straight goals to tie the game at 5-5 going into the half.

After the Knights regained the lead by a goal from Garett Kikot at 12:41 left in the third period, Klotz would go onto score a man-up goal at 7:57 to tie the game at 6-6. After goals by Bellarmine's Gardner and Kikot, Klotz scored his third goal of the game late in the third period to make the score 8-7 going into the fourth.

The Crusaders wasted no time in taking the lead in the fourth period as junior Tanner Fogarty (McMurray, Pa.) tied the game at 8-8 at 1:31 into the period, while senior John O'Sullivan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Klotz each scored goals as the Crusaders took a 10-8 lead with 12:56 remaining. Gardner cut the deficit in half at 10:35 and Cameron Adams tied the game at 10-10 with 2:46 to go. Just 36 seconds later Gardner gave the Knights an 11-10 lead with his third goal of the game.

With six seconds remaining in the fourth period, O'Sullivan drove with the ball and passed it to Klotz who fired the ball into the net just before time expired to force overtime. With 1:49 to go in the extra period, Shane Andersen sent a pass to Gardner who was positioned in front of the net and then buried the game-winner.

Senior goalie Matt Fallon (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) made 15 saves, while Bellarmine JC Hutchins stopped nine shots. The Crusaders outshot the Knights by a 35-34 margin, while Bellarmine had 33 ground balls and Holy Cross had 31. The Crusaders went 1-5 on extra-man opportunities, while the Knights went 1-6.

Tonight's game was the final home game of the season for the Crusaders and before the game seniors Klotz, O'Sullivan, Fallon, Charles Rogers (Providence, R.I.), Patrick McCurdy (Brightwaters, N.Y.), Greg Kelly (Ashland, Mass.), J.R. DiCioccio (West Islip, N.Y.) and Rudy Anderson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) were honored.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 15, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to face Patriot League opponent Lehigh at 1:00 p.m.
