EASTON, Pa. - The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to Lafayette, 7-4, on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-9 overall (0-5 Patriot League), while the Leopards improve to 5-5 overall (1-2 Patriot League). Freshman Colin McGeehin (Newtown Square, Pa.) recorded three goals and junior Kenny Minor (South Hadley, Mass.) scored one goal.
Lafayette was led by Kevin Dunbar who scored two goals.
After Lafayette scored the only goal of the first period, Holy Cross tied the game at 1-1 with a goal by Minor off an assist by Marchand with 9:55 left in the second period. Lafayette then closed out the second period with two straight goals to take a 3-1 lead.
Lafayette then scored the first goal of the third period to increase the lead to 4-1. After a goal by McGeehin off a pass by Smirti, Lafayette made it a 5-2 contest at the end of the third period. Lafayette then scored two more goals in the fourth period followed by two goals by McGeehin. The game then ended at the 7-4 final score.
Senior goalie Jimmy Harrison (East Williston, N.Y.) made eight saves, while Jeff Canfield stopped nine shots. Holy Cross outshot Lafayette, 31-27, while Lafayette went 1-3 on man-up opportunities and Holy Cross went 0-3. Lafayette earned 22 ground balls and Holy Cross earned 18.
The Crusaders return to action on April 7, when they travel to Burlington, Vt., to play non-conference opponent Vermont at 2:00 p.m.
