LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to No. 16 Bucknell, 15-5, in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-6 overall (0-5 Patriot League), while the Bison improve to 8-2 overall (2-1 Patriot League).
Holy Cross freshman Edison Parzanese (Edgartown, Mass.) recorded three points with two goals and one assist, while freshman Chris Smirti (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) also scored two goals. Senior Paul LeBlanc (Lexington, Mass.) added a goal.
Bucknell was led by Austin Winter who had four goals and three assists for seven points, while Tim Brandau had five points with four goals and one assist.
After a scoreless first period, Bucknell scored the first two goals of the second period to take a 2-0 lead. Parzanese then netted two straight to tie the game at 2-2. The Bison would then go onto score four consecutive goals to take a 6-2 lead. LeBlanc cut the lead to 6-3 with a goal with 3:12 left in the half, but Bucknell scored with just seven seconds left to take a 7-3 advantage into the half.
Bucknell scored seven straight goals to open the second half to increase its lead to 14-3. Smirti then scored two goals in a row before Bucknell netted the last goal of the game with four seconds remaining in the fourth period for the 15-5 final score.
Holy Cross sophomore goalie Jimmy Harrison (East Williston, N.Y.) made nine saves in the first 55:21, while freshman Connor Sweeney (South Salem, N.Y.) stopped two shots in the final 4:39. Nick Sciubba made seven saves in the first 45:00, while Matt Antonelli stopped six shots in the final 15:00 for Bucknell. The Bison outshot the Crusaders by a 39-38 margin.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 7, when they travel to Easton, Pa., to face Patriot League opponent Lafayette at 3:00 p.m.
