Men's Lacrosse Falls To Bryant, 10-6
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior captain James Kennedy (Summit, N.J.) scored three goals but the Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to Bryant, 10-6, at the Bryant Turf Complex on Tuesday night in non-conference action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 6-6 overall, while the Bulldogs improve to 4-8 overall.
After Dan Sipperly gave Bryant an early 1-0 lead, sophomore Terry McKenna (Summit, N.J.) scored two straight goals as the Crusaders took a 2-1 advantage to the second quarter. Senior captain Myles Gillespie (Rye, N.Y.) posted an assist on McKenna's second goal. But the Bulldogs outscored the Crusaders 3-0 in the second quarter to bring a 4-2 lead to the half.
Kennedy made it a one-goal contest when he scored the first goal of the third quarter. After Shane Morrell and Alex Zomerfeld each scored a goal for Bryant to increase the lead to 6-3, senior captain John Hannan (Manhasset, N.Y.) tallied the last goal of the third quarter to make it a 6-4 game. Bryant then netted the first three goals of the fourth quarter to take a 9-4 advantage. Kennedy scored his second goal of the game when he found the back of the net off a pass from Gillespie. After a goal by Peter McMahon, Kennedy posted the last goal of the game for the 10-6 final score. The goal was his third of the contest for his fourth hat-trick of the season and the 12th of his career.
Freshman goalie Michael Ortlieb (Newport Beach, Calif.) made 11 saves, while Gunnar Waldt posted nine to earn the victory. Bryant outshot Holy Cross, 38-32 while the Bulldogs secured 41 ground balls and the Crusaders posted 27.
