WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior men's lacrosse captain James Kennedy (Summit, N.J.) has been named the Division I Nike Player of the Week by insidelacrosse.com for his eight-point performance in the 15-14 overtime victory over defending America East champion and 2011 NCAA Tournament participant Hartford on Feb. 25. He is the first Crusader to win this award. This week Kennedy was also named the Anaconda Sports/Lids Team Sports New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Player of the Week and the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week.
Kennedy scored a career-best six goals and posted two assists for a career-best eight points, including netting the game-winner in overtime in the victory versus Hartford. Kennedy now has two career game-winning goals as he scored with three seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Crusaders their first ever win versus Colgate in the 9-8 victory on March 13, 2010. He has seven career hat-tricks. He leads the team this season with nine goals, four assists and 13 points. He has 50 goals and 24 assists for 74 points in 33 career games.
The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, March 4, when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on Jacksonville at D. B. Milne Field at 3:30 p.m.
