Holy Cross Men's Lacrosse

- The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team will kick off the season on Saturday, Feb. 20, when it plays St. John's at DaSilva Memorial Field in Queens, N.Y. at 2:30 p.m. This will be the third straight year that the Crusaders have opened the season against the Red Storm. Last season Holy Cross lost at the Hart Turf Field by a score of 10-5 on Feb. 14, while in 2008 Holy Cross defeated St. John's, 7-5, on Feb. 16 in Queens. Since 2005 this will be only the second time that Holy Cross has opened the season on the road.
- The Crusaders are 3-2 in their last five season openers, including a 10-8 win over Hartford on Feb. 20, 2007, a 19-4 loss versus Fairfield on Feb. 26, 2006 and a 5-4 win over Providence on Feb. 23, 2005.
- St. John's is a member of the newly formed Big East Lacrosse Conference. Last season, the Red Storm won five of its first six games but then lost eight in row to finish 5-9 overall. St. John's is picked to finish sixth out of seven teams in the Big East preseason poll. Holy Cross and St. John's played two common opponents last year as both teams lost both games. The Crusaders fell to Duke by a score of 16-7 and fell to Lehigh, 7-5, while the Red Storm lost to Lehigh, 10-9 in overtime, and lost to Duke, 20-7.
- Holy Cross returns eight of 10 starters and 26 letterwinners from last season (3-12 overall, 0-6 Patriot League). Seniors Tim Barrar (West Chester, Pa.), Kenny Minor (South Hadley, Mass.) and Edison Parzanese (Edgartown, Mass.) will serve as team captains this season. There are 37 players on this year's roster with eight seniors, nine juniors, 11 sophomores and nine freshmen.
