WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior defenseman Rob Godfrey (Thunder Bay, Ontario) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from October 17-23. Godfrey had a goal and an assist last week, as the Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated Massachusetts 3-2 in its season opener last Friday night.
With Holy Cross trailing 2-1 in the third period of the UMass game, Godfrey scored the second goal of his collegiate career with only 3:25 remaining to tie the score at 2-2. Just over a minute later, he had an assist on freshman Kai Magnussen's game-winning goal with just 2:17 left to play. Godfrey was also a key part of the Crusader defensive effort which held the Minutemen to just two goals on 24 shots.
The victory by Holy Cross marked its first win over a member of Hockey East since January 31, 1995, when it posted a 3-2 overtime victory against UMass.
Over the course of his career at Holy Cross, Godfrey has now totaled two goals and seven assists for nine points in 50 games played.
Holy Cross (1-0 overall) returns to action this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29, when it plays host to Army in a pair of 7:00 p.m. games.
