PHOENIX, Ariz. - Former Holy Cross hockey player Matt Burke has signed a new contract with the Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL for the 2008-2009 season. Burke played in eight games with the RoadRunners at the end of last season. Phoenix is the affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks and the AHL's Worcester Sharks.
"Matt gave us some much-needed depth coming out of college at the end of last season and performed well," said RoadRunners head coach and director of hockey operations Brad Church. "We're happy to have him back and expect him to be a steady presence on our blue-line."
Burke, who graduated in May of 2008, earned third team All-Atlantic Hockey honors in 2007-2008. He was the team captain for the Crusaders as a senior as he had three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 30 games. For his career he had 15 goals and 50 assists for 65 points in 138 career games. His 138 games played are tied for fourth on the Holy Cross all-time career games played list. As a sophomore in 2005-2006, he assisted on Holy Cross' game-winning goal in the 4-3 overtime victory over Minnesota in the NCAA West Regional Semifinals.
