Matt Burke Named 2007-08 Men's Hockey Captain

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior defenseman Matt Burke (Milton, Mass.) will serve as captain for the 2007-08 Holy Cross men's hockey team as announced by the hockey program. Senior forwards Dale Reinhardt (Livingston, N.J.) and Matt Werry (Regina, Saskatchewan) have been named assistant captains.

Burke just recently received the Glenn "Spike" Crane Memorial Award at the team's annual banquet. The award is given to the player who excels most in the little things and leads his teammates by example. Burke had an outstanding junior season as he finished fourth on the team in scoring with two goals and 16 assists for 18 points. Burke played in all 35 games this season and has only missed two games in his career so far as he has 12 goals, 39 assists and 51 points in 108 career games. Burke assisted on the game-winning sudden-death overtime goal in the 4-3 victory over Minnesota in the NCAA West Regional Semifinals on March 24, 2006.

Reinhardt had 16 goals, 18 assists and 34 points this season, as he ranked second on the team in goals and points, while he was tied for second in assists. His three game-winning goals led the team. For his career, Reinhardt has 38 goals and 54 assists for 92 points in 103 career games. His 38 goals and 92 points are each tied for eighth on the Holy Cross all-time Division I chart. Reinhardt was a member of the 2006 Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team.

Werry received the Seventh Player Award at the team banquet, which is given to the player who performed above expectations. Werry had five goals and three assists for eight points this season. His five goals and eight points were career-highs, while his three assists tied his career-high. For his career, Werry has eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 81 games. He earned a spot on the 2006 Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team.
