BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Holy Cross graduating senior captain James Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va.) has signed an ATO with the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The Sound Tigers are the affiliate of the New York Islanders. Sixsmith played in three games this weekend scoring two goals and dishing out one assist. In his professional debut on Friday night against the Hartford Wolf Pack, he earned his first point on an assist, while on Saturday he netted two goals against the Hershey Bears.
A four-year member of the Holy Cross men's hockey team, Sixsmith is the Holy Cross Division I all-time points (152) and assists (104) leader. He also scored 48 goals. Sixsmith is tied for eighth on the all-time points list with 152, dating back to the first varsity season in 1966-67. His 142 games played rank third all-time at the school.
Sixsmith had an outstanding senior season as he led the Crusaders in goals (17), assists (30) and points (47). His 30 assists tied current San Jose Shark Patrick Rissmiller for the Holy Cross Division I single-season assists record. Sixsmith 1.34 points per game are sixth nationally and second in the conference, while his .86 assists per game are fifth in the country and third in the league. He was named to the Atlantic Hockey all-conference first team and received the league's Individual Sportsmanship Award. Sixsmith is also just the fifth Holy Cross player to be named a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.
Last season, Sixsmith earned Atlantic Hockey Tournament MVP accolades.
