WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team is ranked No. 19 in the latest USCHO.com/CSTV Division I Men's Poll released on Monday afternoon. The Crusaders received 91 points and moved up one spot from last week's poll. This marks the highest ranking in the history of the Holy Cross men's ice hockey program as the Crusaders head to their second ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
The regionally No. 4 seeded Crusaders (26-9-2) are set to play the No. 1 seeded Golden Gophers (27-8-5) in the first round of the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D., on Friday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. Holy Cross defeated Bentley 5-2 on Saturday night in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament Championship to receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Holy Cross' 26 wins is a new school record as both the 1998-99 and 2003-04 teams each won 22 games. The Crusaders join Boston University as the only two teams in the country to win the regular season and conference tournament championships. The Holy Cross senior class has been a part of 81 wins, which are the most wins in a four year period in the program's history. The Crusaders are 7-1-0 all-time in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament and won their second tournament title in three years. They won the inaugural tournament in 2004 and earned the program's first-ever spot in the NCAA Tournament.
