WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team received a No. 4 seed in the West Regional of the NCAA Tournament at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D. The Crusaders (26-9-2) will face WCHA regular season champion and No. 1 seed Minnesota (27-8-5) in a first round match-up on Friday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. (EST). No. 2 seed North Dakota (27-15-1) and No. 3 seed Michigan (21-14-5) will meet in the other regional semifinal at 9:30 p.m. The winners will advance to the regional championship on Saturday, March 25 at 9:00 p.m. (EST), with the winner moving onto the 2006 Frozen Four at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis., on April 6 and 8.
The Crusaders earned a trip to their second NCAA Tournament in the program's history and their second in three years with a 5-2 win over Bentley in the Atlantic Hockey Championship game last night. Holy Cross has won five in a row and its .730 winning percentage is the third best in the nation behind Minnesota (.738) and Miami of Ohio (.737).
This will be the first time that the Crusaders have faced the Golden Gophers as this is the fifth straight year that Minnesota has earned a No. 1 seed.
