Ben Conway Named Atlantic Hockey Goaltender Of The Week

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior goaltender Ben Conway (South Hadley, Mass.) has been named the Atlantic Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week for his performance in the Crusaders' 4-2 win over Rensselaer, to earn third-place at the Ohio Hockey Classic on Friday, Dec. 30, at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Holy Cross fell to tournament host No. 19 Ohio State, 4-0, on Thursday, Dec. 29. Holy Cross is 10-4-1 overall and 7-2-1 in Atlantic Hockey.
Conway made a season best 39 saves against the Engineers to improve to 4-1-0 on the season. His .800 winning percentage ranks him third nationally, while his .929 save percentage leads Atlantic Hockey and is sixth in the nation. In addition, his 2.01 goals against average also tops the conference and is eighth nationally.
This is the second time that Conway has received this honor in his career. Last season, he was named Goaltender of the Week on Nov. 29, 2004. He also received the 2004-05 Regular-Season Goaltending Award for posting the best goals against average in conference games (2.31).
The Crusaders will return to action next weekend, January 6-7, when they face Atlantic Hockey opponent Sacred Heart in a home-and-home series. On Friday, the Crusaders will travel to Fairfield, Conn., to take on the Pioneers at the Milford Ice Pavilion, while on Saturday they will host Sacred Heart at the Hart Center. Both games are set to start at 7:00 p.m. Holy Cross is currently in second place in Atlantic Hockey with 15 points, while the Pioneers are third with a 6-5-1 record (13 pts.). Sacred Heart plays at Bentley in conference action on January 3.
