Huntsville, Ala. - After defeating the Chargers, 4-2, yesterday, the Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to Alabama-Huntsville, 4-2, Saturday night, in the second game of a weekend series at the Von Braun Center.
The Crusaders came within one point of tying the game when junior Blair Bartlett (Dryden, Ont.) scored in the third period at 6:42. Senior Tony Coskren (Walpole, Mass.) and junior Jon Landry (Lexington, Mass.) assisted on the power-play goal.
Senior Jonas Tomiuck (Wainfleet, Ont.) put the Crusaders on the board midway through the second period, to bring Holy Cross within two. Junior Tyler McGregor (Ajax, Ont.) and senior Andrew McKay (Bellefeuille, Que.) were credited with the assist.
The Chargers started off strong, scoring three goals in the first period. Chris Martini scored Alabama-Huntsville's first goal of the night at 6:42. Less than two minutes later, Derek Conter put the puck past junior goalie Ben Conway (South Hadley, Mass.) to put the score at 2-0. Bruce Mulherin scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 14th minute.
With just seconds left in the game, Alabama-Huntsville squeezed in a fourth goal on an empty Crusader net. Grant Selinger put the puck in the net with 14 second remaining.
The Crusaders, who fall to 1-1, next series is schedule for Friday-Saturday, Oct. 29-30, in their first home games of the season at the Hart Recreation Center against Air Force. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
