Eagles shut down Crusaders

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team was defeated by No. 4 Boston College, 5-0, Monday night at the Conte Forum.
In the first period junior Tony Quesada (South Freeport, Maine) halted 13 shots on goal and allowing just one to slip by. Senior Dave Spina (Mesa, Ariz.) tucked the puck in from the right side of the crease at 16:33. Freshman Mike Brennan (Smithtown, N.Y.) and senior Ryan Shannon (Darien, Conn.) were credited with the assists.
The Eagles opened up the second period with a power play goal at the two minute mark by junior Patrick Eaves (Fairbault, Minn.), with help from senior Ned Havern (Arlington, Mass.) and sophomore Joe Rooney (Canton, Mass.).
Eaves would net his second power play goal of the game at 9:42 in the second on a rebounder from Rooney. BC's Taylor Leahy (Larchmont, N.Y.) would score the Eagles' fourth goal of the game from the far edge of the face off circle.
BC's Chris Collins (Fairport, N.Y.) fired the Eagles fifth goal at 4:18 in the third from the front of the crease from Shannon and Spina.
Senior Matti Kaltianen (Espoo, Finland) stopped all 15 shots faced for the win, while Quesada made 39 saves for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders travel to Providence, R.I. for the Dunkin Donuts Coffee Pot Tournament, Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 27-28. Holy Cross is slated to play Providence on Saturday at 7 p.m., followed by either Brown or Merrimack on Sunday at 4 or 7 p.m., depending on Saturday's results.
