Men's Hockey Falls To RIT, 2-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to the Rochester Institute of Technology, 2-1, in Atlantic Hockey action this evening at the Frank Ritter Memorial Ice Arena. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 7-7-1 overall (6-5-1 AHA), while the Tigers improve to 5-5-2 overall (5-2-1 AHA).
RIT took a 1-0 lead at 12:03 into the first period when Steve Pinizzotto netted a power play goal. For the period, the Crusaders had five shots and went 0-4 on the power play, while the Tigers had 10 shots and went 1-3 on the man-advantage.
Holy Cross tied the game at 1-1 at 5:40 into the second period while on the power play when senior James Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va.) scored his sixth goal of the season. Junior Dale Reinhardt (Livingston, N.J.) sent a pass from behind the net to Sixsmith in front of the goal as he then buried the puck into the net. Junior Cal St. Denis (Freelton, Ontario) was also credited with an assist. Holy Cross outshot RIT by a 9-6 margin, while the Crusaders went 1-5 on the power play and the Tigers went 0-4.
Anton Kharin scored the game-winner at the 16:43 mark of the third period on the power play when he reflected a shot from Brent Patry into the net.
Freshman goaltender Ian Dams (Manotick, Ontario) made 29 saves and is now 5-5-0, while Jocelyn Guimond stopped 20 shots and is 3-3-2. Holy Cross had 21 shots and went 1-10 on the power play, while RIT had 31 shots and went 2-9.
These two teams will meet again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
