ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to the Rochester Institute of Technology, 5-1, on Friday evening at the Frank Ritter Ice Arena in Atlantic Hockey action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-2-1 overall (1-1-1 Atlantic Hockey), while the Tigers improve to 2-4-1 (1-1-1 Atlantic Hockey). These two teams will conclude their two-game weekend series on Saturday.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead with two first period power play goals. Alan Mazur netted the first goal at the 13:07 mark, while at 15:27, Sean Murphy made it a 2-0 game. RIT outshot Holy Cross, 10-6 in the period.
RIT continued its strong performance on the man-advantage when Tyler Brenner scored the Tigers' third power play goal of the contest at the 16:54 mark of the second period. For the period, Holy Cross outshot RIT by a 12-9 margin for the period.
At 9:01 into the third period, the Crusaders made it a 3-1 game when junior Rob Forshner (Sundre, Alberta) netted a power play goal for his first goal of the year. Junior Brodie Sheahan (Lethbridge, Alberta) and sophomore Jordan Cyr (Winnipeg, Manitoba) assisted on the goal. The Tigers then regained their three-goal advantage at the 13:50 mark with a goal by Andrew Favot. At 16:12, Justin Hofstetter scored the last goal of the game for the 5-1 final score.
Holy Cross sophomore goalie Adam Roy (Feeding Hills, Mass.) made 20 saves and is now 1-2-1 on the year, while RIT goalie Louis Menard stopped 29 shots to improve to 1-2-1. The Crusaders outshot the Tigers, 30-25, while Holy Cross went 1-10 on the power play and RIT went 3-7.
