WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior Dale Reinhardt (Livingston, N.J.) scored two goals and added an assist, while senior captain James Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va.) netted a goal and had an assist as the Holy Cross men's hockey team opened up the Atlantic Hockey season with 4-1, win over conference rival Mercyhurst, at the Hart Center on Friday night. Both players lead the team in scoring with five points as Reinhardt has three goals and two assists, while Sixsmith has a goal and four assists.
Holy Cross wasted little time getting on the board when Reinhardt passed from behind the net to Sixsmith who buried it past Mercyhurst goalie Tyler Small for his first goal of the season. Senior Sean Nappo (Northville, Mich.) was also credited with an assist. Holy Cross extended its lead when Reinhardt scored his second goal of the season off a pass from Nappo and senior Jon Landry (Lexington, Mass.).

Junior Cal St. Denis (Freelton, Ontario) knocked in his own rebound for his first goal of the season just 39 seconds into the third period to make it 3-0. Sixsmith and Reinhardt struck again when Sixsmith sent a crossing pass from the left side to a wide-open Reinhardt for a short-handed goal in front of the net. Sophomore Marty Dams (Manotick, Ontario) was also credited with an assist. It was Reinhardt's third goal in two games. Mercyhurst ruined the Crusaders' shutout bid when Matt Pierce blasted a shot by freshman goalie Tyler Chestnut (Faribault, Minn.) in the third period.
Chestnut was outstanding in net as he made 41 saves in his collegiate debut, while Small also made 41 saves. The Crusaders outshot Mercyhurst, 45-42, and went 0-5 on the power play, while the Lakers went 1-7.
The Crusaders return to the ice Saturday afternoon to face Mercyhurst again at the Hart Center at 4:00 p.m.
