Worcester, Mass. - Senior captain Tyler McGregor (Ajax, Ont.) scored a hat trick as the Holy Cross men's hockey team defeated Royal Military College, 6-2, in an exhibition game, on Friday evening at the Hart Center. The Holy Cross offense was spread out as 12 Crusaders earned at least one point in the win.The Crusaders kick off the 2005-06 season when they travel to Amherst, Mass., to take on the Massachusetts Minutemen, on Friday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m.
Sophomore Cal St. Denis (Freelton, Ont.) put the Crusaders on the board in the first period when he scored a goal off a rebound at the 7:36 mark with assists given to freshmen Kai Magnussen (Okotoks, Alta.) and Dewey Thomson (Northbridge, Mass.). Junior Tanner Fogarty (McMurray, Pa.) increased the lead when he netted a power play goal at the 17:36 mark from passes by sophomore Jim Tselikis (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and sophomore J.R. Butler (Marlboro, Mass.).
Holy Cross capitalized on a power-play opportunity when McGregor scored his first goal of the game at the 5:33 mark of the second period giving the Crusaders a 3-0 lead. Assists were credited to junior Jon Landry (Lexington, Mass.) and junior Rob Godfrey (Thunder Bay, Ont.). RMC answered back at the 9:04 mark with a goal by Tyler McTavish. McGregor increased the lead back to three when he scored goal at the 14:44 mark with the lone assist going to sophomore Bryce Nantes (Calgary, Alta.). Freshman Marty Dams (Manotick, Ont.) gave the Crusaders a 5-1 lead three minutes later with a power play goal as assists were dished out by Magnussen and McGregor.
The Paladins scored just 51 seconds into the third period when Roman Srutek netted a power play goal. McGregor scored his third and the last goal of the game at the 7:35 mark from passes by senior co-captain Pierre Napert-Frenette (Bathurst, N.B.) and Nantes.
