WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Jay Silvia (Burlington, Mass.) scored for the Crusaders as the Holy Cross men's hockey team tied Prince Edward Island, 1-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center in an exhibition game.
The Panthers got on the board first at 1:32 into the first period, when Howie Martin scored off assists by Vince Scott and Jordon Knox. The Crusaders answered back at the 6:46 mark when Silvia placed the puck into the lower left side of the net off a crossing pass by junior co-captain Ryan Driscoll (Dorchester, Mass.). Freshman Luke Miller (Andover, Mass.) was also credited with an assist. The Panthers outshot the Crusaders, 8-3, while each team went 0-1 on the power play.
The second period went scoreless, as Holy Cross had nine shots and went 0-2 on the man-advantage and Prince Edward Island had seven shots and went 0-1. The third period also went scoreless as the Crusaders outshot the Panthers by a 9-2 margin and Prince Edward Island went 0-2 on the power play. In overtime, Holy Cross had six shots and the Panthers had one.
For the Crusaders, sophomore Adam Roy (Feeding Hills, Mass.) allowed one goal and made 14 saves in the first two periods, while junior Ian Dams (Manotick, Ontario) stopped three shots. For the Panthers, Jhase Sniderman allowed one goal and made 26 saves.
The Crusaders outshot the Panthers, 27-18, while Holy Cross went 0-3 on the power play and Prince Edward Island went 0-4.
The Crusaders open the 2008-2009 season on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17-18, when they host Atlantic Hockey opponent Canisius in a two-game weekend series. Friday's game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m., while Saturday's game will start at 4:00 p.m.
