Men's Hockey Ties Ottawa, 2-2, In Exhibition Game

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team tied the University of Ottawa, 2-2, in an exhibition game, on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center. Junior Chris Trovato (North Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman Peter Lorinser (Marquette, Mich.) each registered goals to lead the Crusaders.

After Ottawa's Nick Vernelli scored a power play goal at just 1:05 into the game, both teams went scoreless for the next 47 minutes. During the first two periods the Crusaders dominated play as they outshot Ottawa by a 26-14 margin entering into the third period.

With 11:34 left in the third period Trovato broke the Crusaders' drought when he scored off a face-off. Junior Jim Tselikis (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) then found Lorinser coming down the right side to put the Crusaders up 2-1 with only 1:35 left to go in the game. However the lead was short lived as Ottawa quickly responded when Kevin Glode scored on a power play with 43 seconds to go in the third period to send the game into overtime.

On the day, Holy Cross outshot Ottawa, 38-25.

Holy Cross freshmen goalies Ian Dams (Manotick, Ontario) and Tyler Chestnut (Faribault, Minn.) combined to make 23 saves, while Martin Bricault stopped 36 shots for Ottawa.

The Crusaders kick off the 2006-07 season when they travel to Niagara Falls, N.Y. to take on the Niagara Purple Eagles, on Saturday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m.
